The Northern and Southern Lights have sparked wonder for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Today we know the science behind this beautiful natural phenomenon – but that doesn’t make the experience any less magical. On the contrary.
What exactly are the Northern Lights, and how do they occur? Where on Earth are the best chances to witness them? When is the likelihood of seeing them highest? And might auroras also exist on other planets?
In Planetarium’s dome theatre, you will embark on a tailored journey guided by our skilled presenters. We take you to the places where you have the best chance of seeing the magnificent aurora and provide expert guidance on how you can experience the phenomenon yourself.
Join us on a journey through Earth’s mysterious magnetic field and onwards past the Sun, where we explore colossal solar eruptions. We will also visit distant planets to investigate whether auroras can be found there as well.
It will be a truly magical journey. Beneath the planetarium dome, we create 8K visualisations of a cloudless starry sky, stunning landscapes, solar eruptions and, of course, the Northern Lights – all based on data from satellites and telescopes around the world.
The event is recommended for ages 15 and up. See also Northern lights for kids.
