In this special planetarium show, one of our science communicators will take you on a fascinating journey through space – with Earth at the centre of the story.
The journey begins in 1968 with the Apollo 8 mission, when humanity saw Earth from space for the very first time. The iconic “Earthrise” image gave us a completely new perspective on our planet as one shared and fragile world.
From there, we travel back to the formation of the Solar System and explore how Earth, the Moon and the first oceans came into existence. We investigate the special conditions that make life possible – liquid water, an atmosphere and a magnetic field – and discover why Earth is able to support life.
We also look at other planets and ask whether there really could be a “Planet B”. Through visits to neighbouring planets and distant exoplanets such as Proxima Centauri b, it becomes clear just how unique Earth truly is.
Finally, we turn our attention to the present day and the challenges facing our planet, including climate change. The show offers both insight and hope, inspiring us all to help take care of our shared home.
The message is clear:
Earth is not just a planet – it is our home. And it is our shared responsibility to protect it.
